Mission and History

The College of Wicca and Old Lore was founded in 1999 by High Priestess MorningGlory Dragonfly. As then owner of Herbs and Arts, she saw more Pagans in Denver seeking instruction in the Craft than there were teachers.

MorningGlory was given a vision and challenge to create a Pagan community to teach students and also prepare teachers to carry on teaching in the Wicca.

Thus, the College of Wicca was born. To date, we have taught over 200 students with more enrolling each quarter. The number of teachers has grown from two to a faculty of eighteen, with seven student teachers. A large Pagan and Wiccan community has developed in Denver from this vision.

Expectations

The Craft is a spiritual path of mirth and reverence. As Pagans we laugh, celebrate, study and grow together. To keep our community as healthy and safe as possible, we have the following expectations for all -- students and teachers.

Illicit/recreational drugs are not permitted in class or at any event held or conducted by the College. Do not come to a class or event under the influence of illicit drugs or in possession of them. Wine is served in some rituals, and nonalcoholic alternatives will always be provided.

If you are taking mind altering prescription drugs, discuss this with the High Priestess prior to class or ritual.

We are a tolerant and inclusive community and do not discriminate based on gender, age, race, tradition or religion, ability or disability, sexual or political orientation, ethnic origin, shoe size or anything else.

The College does not tolerate any form of harassment.

We do not condone 'religion bashing'. We believe all paths to the Divine are sacred.

Finally, the College is not a source of, or alternative to, counseling, therapy or healthcare.

Homework

The College of Wicca offers students a chance to become acquainted with herbs, stones, metals and other natural items. This will create a firm foundation for future Pagan studies. Each week a homework topic is assigned and if appropriate, a sample is given out. Each week the student may also complete an advanced homework topic as listed.

Completion of the required homework assignments are necessary for continuation in the College. The optional assignments are just that - optional, but a great way to gain more knowledge.

Beginning with the Water quarter 2002, we will require each student choose five creatures from a list of about 13 and write about them.

Tuition Q&A

Our tuition payment system is based on honor. We need your payments to help the college continue its work to teach and build community. See Classes & Offerings for current prices. Here are some frequently asked questions:

Where does the money go?
The teachers are not paid for their services. We use your fees to pay for our space rental and supplies for classes.

I don’t have much money - how do I pay?
Whatever works for your budget but we do need our students to make payments. Right now we can only take cash or check. The tuition is very reasonable and the sliding scale is set up to accommodate many budgets. Arrangements for students in severe financial hardship can be made with the Treasurer.

What do I get for my fee?
The class fee pays for the morning class, Sabbats, and afternoon classes, samples of herbs and minerals assigned for homework. That’s quite a bit for this fee.

Do you have scholarships?
Yes, but only only to returning students. There needs to be a level of commitment demonstrated by your study, your participation in the community and of course, to the Lord and the Lady.

Do you have other options?
We do provide work-study for students who are unable to pay. These arrangements are made at the first day of orientation. Work-study is set up on the honor system. The work study opportunities vary , usually involving set up and clean up for classes, assisting with set up and clean up prior to rituals, and other events. Details will be given at the first day of quarter orientation.

Teachers

Paula, High Priestess - When I was very young, I'd get up early Saturday morning, go outside among the ash trees my Mother and Father had planted and watch the grasshoppers, mockingbirds, scissortails, and horned toads in their elaborate dance. Then on Sunday morning we went to the Southern Baptist Sunday school and church service. Now on Sunday mornings, I go to the College of Wicca and Old Lore, teaching, mentoring, and planning rituals. I’ve been with the College from the first days, working with MorningGlory to develop orientations, classes, and rituals. I have degrees in theatre and have taught theatre, acted and directed at the university level for more than 20 years. I enjoy building and working with masks. Some of my favorite ritual work has been as High Priestess of two masked rituals, one honoring Cerridwen and the other celebrating the Dragon World, presented by the College as main rituals at Dragonfest. I follow an eclectic Wiccan path, combining studies in Celtic and Greco-Roman pantheons (primarily), prayer and meditation, ritual construction, aspecting and Drawing Down the Moon. I am a Tarot reader and teacher, and I have my Reiki second degree.

Aileen - I am the teacher who is passionate about parrots-- I should be, with 12 plus me, I have my very own coven. Now to just get the Amazon to quit singing Somewhere over the Rainbow. I am also passionate about animals- both magical & mundane. Animals can teach us a lot more than we think as long as we become still and listen to them. My pantheon is the Celtic pantheon, and my Goddess is the Goddess Morrigan, and she blesses me with her love and protection daily.

Felinia - Merry Meet, I am Felinea Redclaw (mundane name Diane).
My love of animals and mother earth has been with all my life. I was led to the college by my husband Leo. My training includes Completion of basics course, year and a day program at the College (beginning in Water Quarter of 2004) and Dedication. I continue a personal study and a 2nd level study with a group. I have had the privilege of Initiation. I was a Student Teacher from Fire quarter 2005 through Air quarter 2007. April 1, 2007 I was given the honor of attaining the title of Teacher. I do many jobs in the college! My areas of interest include stones, animals and herbs. I am most familiar with the Egyptian pantheon, although I have worked with many Gods and Goddesses from other pantheons from time to time. Bright Blessings, Felinea ^-.-^

Leo -I've been with the college for almost 3 years. First as a student, and now as a student teacher. I'm still searching for a pantheon, but am leaning heavily towards Celtic. I love to drum, and play with fire.  I also have an affinity for tarantulas and scorpions. The Goddess is Alive, and Magick Abounds!

Marcarius - I've been in the Craft for 10 yrs. I have been with the College for over a year and I became a student teacher in January of 2003. I work with Druid, Dragon, and Wiccan traditions mostly, but I have an open mind to other traditions as well. I enjoy Spellcrafting, Ritual crafting, making Candles, and making homemade incense and bath salts.

Amaset - Merry Meet!  I am Amaset (also known as Emily in my mundane life).  My interest in paganism was sparked by the tarot, which I learned to read 20 years ago while I was in college.  For years and years, I tried to live Wicca as a solitary practitioner (with varying degrees of success and dedication), but about three years ago, I realized that I needed a spiritual community so I started taking all kinds of classes and workshops.  I also decided to really dedicate myself to the Wiccan path rather than following it on an on again, off again basis.  An internet search led me to the College of Wicca and Old Lore, and finding the College has been a true gift from the Goddess.  I very recently completed my year and a day with the college and truly look forward to the opportunity to be a student teacher.  I have so much more to learn, and hopefully a little something to teach.  Some of my primary areas of interest are the tarot (I have been an absolute, total tarot fanatic for the past 20 years), Egyptian ritual, mythology and the Egyptian pantheon, crystals and stones and shamanic journeying.

Cameron - Greetings! I'm Cameron, a tree-hugging, dirt-worshiping, Mother-loving, spiral-dancing, recovering alcoholic Witch! Wheee! I'm one of the teachers and a behind-the-scenes kind of guy with the College of Wicca. I've been with the college for over eight years . Before that I received training in the Blue Star tradition. Before that I was a solitary Witch. I'm also involved in the Reclaiming and Feri traditions. My interests lie in meditation, Hermetic studies, trance work and divination. I have studied with the Inner Connections Institute which teaches clairvoyant techniques of the Berkeley Psychic Institute. I can't read minds but learned many valuable tools. I'm currently immersed in Western philosophy, particularly theories of knowledge, belief and morality. Alas, there's never enough time to learn it all. My greatest passion is binding fine leather books (visit my site at www.sparklyrock.com). By the grace of the loving Goddess, I live a clean and sober life with Mike, my partner of 16 years. We share our lives with our three precious cats Monty, Maggie and Doogie. I'm a staunch vegetarian among a house full of omnivores. Many Blessings
